José Luís Santos was born in 1960 in Porto, Portugal. After graduating in applied physics (optics and electronics) in 1983, he received the PhD degree in the same field in 1993, both from the University of Porto, Portugal. Presently, he is the head of the physics department of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. Additionally, he has been the scientific coordinator of the INESC Porto Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems Unit since 1994, and the manager of INESC Porto Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems Unit since 1998. He is also the president of FiberSensing’s shareholder board.
