Javier Ulecia graduated from the Universidad Politécnica, Madrid, as an aeronautical engineer. He holds an MBA from the H.E.C. School of Management, Paris. In the last 12 years, Mr. Ulecia has been involved in private equity and technology projects, either as an external consultant or as a manager of venture-capital funds.
In 2001, he cofounded Bullnet Capital, a venture-capital fund specializing in technology-related projects. Bullnet Capital is one of the few VCs existing today in Spain, and it has invested in five companies, including Netspira Networks (SW for mobile operators’ data networks), Anafocus (vision systems), Arvirago Technologies (videogame developer), Multiwave Photonics (fiber optics), and GEM Imaging (nuclear medicine devices). In June 2005, Ericsson acquired Netspira Networks from its founders and investors, becoming one of the first examples of a Spanish company funded by a local VC that has been sold to a worldwide leader in its sector.
Javier is a member of the board of Bullnet Capital’s portfolio companies as well as of other nontechnology companies. Before Bullnet Capital, he was CEO of Doing (a venture-capital firm that specialized in broadband technology operated until the technology bubble burst). Prior to that, he was senior manager at Bain & Company, the international strategy consulting firm where he worked first in the Paris office and, since September 1996, in Madrid. Javier began his career with Renault in France as a project manager in its Research and Development Division.
